Free marketing and outsourcing

This came in an e-mail, and it makes an interesting point. I might comment further on this later. This might be something that you can forward to your congresspeoples or other representatives.

---------------------------------

A car company can move it's factories to Mexico and claim it's a free market.

A toy company can out source to a Chinese subcontractor and claim it's a free market.

A shoe company can produce its shoes in Southeast Asia and claim it's a free market

A major bank can incorporate in Bermuda to avoid taxes and claim it's a free market.

We can buy HP Printers made in Mexico .

We can buy shirts made in Bangladesh .

We can purchase almost anything we want from 20 different countries.

BUT, heaven help the senior citizens who dare to buy their prescription drugs from a Canadian or Mexican pharmacy.

That's called un-American and illegal and our politicians want to stop it!

And you think the pharmaceutical companies don't have a powerful lobby? Think again!

Forward this to every person you know over age 50.

It is an interesting thought. Maybe this is an issue that should come up in the next election!

Forget the 50, send it to everyone. We're all in this boat together! Even if you aren't in this boat now, you're standing on the pier.

------------------------------------------------------------

This is the sort of stuff that appeals to my liberal side. :-D

Down with the pharmaceutical monopolies!!

Hey John,

Not a big fan of pharma-monopolies either; but with the exception of the bank example, all these points are directly related to the outsourcing trend directly impacting U.S. labor (which you rightfully tagged this post with 'outsourcing' but perhaps forgot to include in your comment).

Why limit forwarding the email to the over-50 set? I recommend forwarding the email to the almost-46 million folks without health insurance, which would surely include some of those 50-plus-somethings

That said, I wonder how many of these millions of Americans once held decent-paying jobs that've been shipped overseas.

So, what seems to have evolved since the outsourcing trend started in the Reagan years, is a sort of serfdom, where Americans of every age are either required to work increasingly lower-paying jobs, hopefully with employers who offer offsetting insurance premiums (although that seems to be falling behind cost increases too), or risk illegal activity to purchase cost-effective medication across the borders.

As you know, many of these folks need these drugs to maintain a quality of life or simply to continue living. Needless to say, I think it's deplorable to hold another's life at stake purely for a profit margin.

So, if former U.S. laborers who are earning less now and increasingly larger numbers of older Americans are left out of the health care equation, who will be left to buy the inflated-priced meds here in the States?

Perhaps if Congress found the backbone to renounce its free medical care and agreed to accept the terms facing many of their own constituents (and no the corporate interests), then reform would suddenly be a priority.

In the meantime, airfare to France, where care and meds are cheap or free, is still relatively cheap. Hopefully they won't be passing anti-immigration legislation anytime soon. ;)
